Description

In the last year a lot has been going on for me for art, writing, job, family. Everything kept me quite busy and I was really surprised to see how many artworks and projects I’ve been working on during the year. It sometimes makes me believe I must be completely insane XD

2012 was also a year where I started using the digital media a little bit more. I just started coloring stuff in October or November 2011 so… The beginning of the year I have been working with Sumopaint online to color my linearts and in September I started using GIMP which I instantly adopted; much more precise and very interesting tools I have learned to use. (Still got a lot to learn XD) I still work on one simple layer; I should learn how to use multilayers… Would probably help me a little bit! :P

I’ve also been working with a simple mouse all year long and I would like to believe I maybe will get a tablet soon since I enjoy the digital coloring a lot. It was never my priority investing into one, you know, the family, the house, the car… But, I’d really love to own one and learn to use it.

Even though I started coloring digitally, I still kept doing some traditional stuff too! Paintings, traditional pencil coloring and all my linearts are done manually with a V7 pen. I love to do this part of an artwork traditionally. I actually keep all my linearts in a binder (I filled more than one in a year XD)

So basically, this is a good summary of what my artistic path have been looking like since the beginning of 2012. I hope you enjoy this ;)

Now let’s follow with the summary of the artworks I have chosen to feature for months from January to December 2012!

January
Mysterious Senshi 9 Colored Version
[link]
Okay, so this is one of the first drawings I colored digitally. You can see I’ve been struggling a bit to make the lines between two colors straight… Yup, the mouse… With the right hand… I usually draw with my left hand but I am not able of using a mouse with my left hand. Can you understand something to this? XD However, I still like this one, for the pose, the combination of the colors, the expression. Not my best work but I can live with it ;)

February
Phoenix Maiden’s OC Colored Version
[link]
:iconphoenixmaiden: ‘s OC’s name is Sailor Sol and I got to say I absolutely love her design and I love her colors as well! We did an art trade back in February and this was my part of the trade. I was quite happy with the result as the colors turned out way better than what I had done before. You could see I was getting a little more comfortable with the digital media. Other than that, the pose is pretty epic and her hair turned out very beautiful.

March
Sailor Moon Forever Cover
[link]
This month has been a very productive one for me and it has made it really hard for me to choose only one artwork to feature in there but I stopped my choice on this one for many reasons. When I did this, I was in a very good mood and in a very good shape and even though I try to make my works better every day, it doesn’t always work but for this drawing, everything went well. Love the poses, love Sailor Moon’s design, and love both expressions showing Sailor Moon being protected by Sailor Solarion. Months after I did this artwork, it always remained as one of my favorite pieces.

April
The Rubber Racer Colored Version
[link]
Speaking of art, April has also been a very busy month for me. The artwork I chose wasn’t all that popular, probably because it has nothing to do with Sailor Moon and I’m kind of renowned for that. I like this artwork because
1- Different subject
2- The colors
3- The car behind and the wheel on which the character has her foot on
4- Her outfit
5- It is quite representative of who I am ;)

May
StefBani’s Shine and Noctiluca Senshis Color
[link]
In 2012 I’ve been drawing a lot of drawings for other great deviants and this actually happened even more in May. I drew a few of my personal stuff too but the artwork I chose is one I did for an incredible and very sweet girl :iconstefbani: remains my favorite for this month. The poses I chose for both and the color combination makes this an awesome work ;)

June
The Man Behind the Mask Colored Version
[link]
Again, I had a lot of works to choose from for June but I decided I would opt for this one because of how intense, mysterious yet romantic this looks. I also like how the red rose stands out in this and what to say about the way Tuxedo Kamen is looking right at us in this!

July
The Rise of Solarion Cover V1 Colored Version
[link]
This has to be one of my favorites among all. I think it’s actually the only artwork in my whole gallery where we can see Sailor Solarion entirely and this with her staff and board. The pose is quite epic and makes a perfect cover page for my fanfiction.

August
Solarion and Sun Colored Version
[link]
August was a month where I felt I had no inspiration to draw. I was mainly focused on my writings at that time so I didn’t submit a lot of artworks on that month but I did post a few and this was the one I preferred from all. You still can tell my head wasn’t all in my art and that mood wasn’t all there. I would love to add Sailor Sun is :iconsailorscoutfan101:’s OC. She is a very nice girl who wishes to improve her art every day and I must say she is getting better every day as well. Keep up the good work!

September
The Red Satin Babe Colored Version
[link]
Okay, this was one of the first drawing I colored using GIMP. There are a lot of my coloring experiments in there but I think it turned out quite good after all and I really love that outstanding red! Got to love GIMP!

October
Touching your Soul painting
[link]
Part of the special traditional painting collection ‘‘Expression… Sensuality… Feminity…’’, the pieces created in this project represent women in their entire splendor. For more information about this project follow the http:// [link] I specially chose this painting because of her eyes, the expression on her face, and the movement of her hair. The artwork was painted using Acrylics and other mixed mediums.

November
Something Different Colored Version
[link]
I wasn’t all that happy with the result because the coloring is quite different from how I usually do it and is not really a reflection of who I am. However, this artwork inspired something different yet interesting and I got to admit the coloring is still well done. I do love the bright colors in this also. At first it made me think of an esoteric illustration, I really don’t know why but I then decided I would actually turn this into a tarot card in another version of this artwork.

December
Sailor Moon Redesigned Colored Version
[link]
I’m going to confess something to you guys, I have been a fan of Sailor since the 1990s and I drew tons and tons of drawing of her never seeming to like the result. It was not much about the hair or the design but mostly about how severe and warrior she would look like in my style. I never got satisfied with my Sailor Moon drawing except for this one! Finally, I was able to represent her the way I see her… In my heart she is a symbol of purity, beauty, unconditional love and unsuspected strength. Now this piece representing her is the one I am the most proud of!

I would like to add I was inspired into doing this summary by a friend of mine here on DeviantART
:iconmishihime:
I first met her on The Galaxy Cauldron Forums, then here. She also has a magnificent gallery you should check out.
Here is her own 2012 Art summary for you to check out!

I think we're a lot alike. It took me a long time to transition to fully digital. At first my drawings were all inked, then I scanned and colored them in Photoshop. And like my gallery, yours is also almost entirely Sailor Moon inspired. I have to wonder, do any of your friends understand your passion for the series? A lot of my friends don't get why I draw so much fanart and they ask me all the time, "Why sailor girls?" and I just can't explain it. lol.

If i had to choose a favorite among your artworks, it would probably be "Sailor Moon Forever" I like seeing Sailor Moon with your otaku senshi. It's also been very interesting seeing you draw a lot of other people's characters in your style. The sheer number of drawings you have done this year is pretty incredible. I could never draw that fast. I wonder how you do it. hahaha. You've also gotten better with Solarion's poses and I can really pick out which drawings that you put a lot of effor into, and were feeling really spirited while doing them. There's a lot of you in all your work. They say that artists sometimes draw their figures like how they are and I see lots of bits and pieces of you in them. I think that's the reason people find your work so unique and request to trade with you so much. If I had to give you a little tiny bit of criticism, I would say to expand your color palettes. You really really like bright blue. I know blue goes well with orange and Solarion's colors in general, but it looks like you like to use it all the time for your backgrounds. Subconsciously, I think we use our favorite colors over and over again, so try to bring more of the rainbow into your art. I think it will be a lot more successful that way. The last thing I think your art really captures, is just the idea of ~ glamor. Sometimes I feel like you should be a model or a photographer or something because that's what your poses reflect. It's reminiscent of Naoko's tankubon covers, except where she had a lovely princess like grace, your art has just a dash of vogue magazine, cover girl, sex appeal.

If you continue drawing as much as you do, I would really save for a tablet. My boyfriend, who is also an artist, just bought a new wireless Wacom Bamboo tablet. Bamboo tablets are the cheapest line of tablets that you can buy from wacom but they are really really well made. The drivers and software that came with it even asked him if he was right or left handed and since you mentioned that you are left handed that feature might make it easier for you. Even an older, used wacom tablet would probably be worth investing in at some point. I personally, couldn't function without one. Although, there was a time where I too colored with a mouse.
